How to run the SWITCH products as a Windows service?

Products

LightSWITCH, FullSWITCH, PowerSWITCH

Answer

SWITCH can be executed as a service or as a console. When you install the program and launch it, the console will be launched automatically and you’ll be able to work with the product. The moment you log out, both the program and the console will be closed and it will not be possible to run flows after logging out.

Using the service instead of the console will allow you to continue processing files, even when your user is logged out.

In order to setup FullSWITCH as a service, follow these steps (the steps to run LightSWITCH as a service are very similar):

  • Open the Windows Control Panel
  • Choose ‘Administrative tools’
  • Choose ‘Services’
  • In the list of services you’ll find ‘Gradual FullSWITCH service’
  • Right click this service and choose ‘Properties’

Now you’ll see this panel:

  • On the General tab, choose the Startup type you prefer: automatic will make sure the service is started when booting your computer
  • On the Log On tab, you can choose which account should be used to run the service. This can be important to retrieve for example the Photoshop actions created by a user as these are saved in user preferences and are not equal for all users

Once the service is setup, you can start it manually and launch the FullSWITCH application.

Note: when exiting FullSWITCH, there is an option to stop processing. Choosing to stop processing, will stop the service.
