Hard-copy proofing

This flow makes the difference between grayscale and color files, sends the grayscale files to the B&W proofer and balances the color files over 3 color proofers.

This flow is compatible with: FullSWITCH, PowerSWITCH.

Information

When a PDF is ready for print, it is dropped in the “input” submit hierarchy. This is a hotfolder that supports subfolders and files will be retrieved up to 5 levels deep. A filter will make sure that only PDF files are allowed to go in the flow after they were dropped in the input folder.

pdfInspektor checks the incoming PDF files to detect which color spaces are used in the file. If a PDF only contains grayscale objects, the file will be sent to the B&W proofer. If other color spaces such as CMYK or spot colors are available in the PDF file, it is sent to the color proofers.

All files, whether they go to the B&W or the color proofer, are sent to the “File balancer” tool. This tool will only release a file when the proofer “free” i.e. is not printing a file at that time.

Using this flow

• Download the flow and save it on your computer: download flow
• Launch one of the SWITCH products this flow is compatible with
• Use the “Flow > Import…” menu item
• In the dialog that is shown, select the flow file

The flow now appears in the flow list. You can now examine or customize it to your needs.
