Copy shop

This flow was created for a copy shop which needs to handle many files. All files are checked on size and color space and dropped in the hotfolder of the printer that can handle these files.

This flow is compatible with: FullSWITCH, PowerSWITCH.

Information

Jobs are supplied in 2 different ways:

  • when the customer supplies a job it is dropped in the "Digital" folder.
  • when a physical print is delivered, it is scanned and then dropped in the "Scan to file" folder.

Jobs of all types are collected in the "All files folder". The goal is to convert as many file formats as possible to PDF because of the extensive preflight possibilities; a major advantage compared to other file formats in this flow.

Images are handed to the Photoshop configurator, PostScript and EPS files go to Distiller and all other file formats are dropped in a separate folder so that they can be handled separately.

It would also be possible to hand over word files to the Acrobat configurator which can convert these to PDF automatically as well.

The copy shop has B&W and color printers. callas pdfInspektor is used to preflight the files and differentiate between black-and-white and color jobs.

Both for B&W and color printers it is important to make the difference between small format (smaller than A3) and large format (larger than A3); pdfInspektor is used for this too.

The result is a hotfolder for each printer where only files are dropped that can actually be printed by that printer. As this copy shop is handling a lot of B&W files smaller than A3, there are 2 printers available. The file balancer tool in front of these 2 printers makes sure the work is equally divided between both printers.
