Create and check - PitStop Server
The “Create and check” flow accepts files from different sources (Email, FTP, hotfolder); Distills the PostScript files; preflights the PDF files and archives them. Notifications are send whenever there is a problem.
This flow is compatible with: FullSWITCH, PowerSWITCH.
Information
Input
This flow accepts input files from different sources:
- The "Mail Receive" tool periodically checks an email account and inserts file attachments into the flow, while remembering the sender’s address.
- The "FTP Receive" tool periodically checks an FTP server (including subdirectories up to five levels deep) and downloads all files it finds; an appropriate “sender” email address is attached to the file depending on where it was found.
- The “From CD” folder (a shared folder on the local server) is available for manual submission of files; for example in case the files are supplied on a physical medium. The “sender” email address is set to an internal operator.
Sorting files
Incoming PDF files are handed directly to Enfocus PitStop Server for preflight; incoming PostScript or EPS files are handed to Adobe Acrobat Distiller. All other file types are placed in the “Problem files” folder, and an email notification is sent to the designated internal operator and to the file’s sender.
Creating PDF files
Adobe Acrobat Distiller processes all incoming PostScript files using the “SheetCmyk_1v3” Adobe PDF Settings, configured from within SWITCH.
If Distiller successfully creates a PDF file, it is placed in the “PDF files” folder for preflight. If an error occurs, Distiller’s error log is mailed to the customer who supplied the faulty file and to the appropriate internal customer service representative.
Checking PDF files
Enfocus PitStop Server checks all generated PDF files using the “SheetCmyk_1v3” preflight profile, configured from within SWITCH. This is a PDF/X-plus profile available on the Ghent PDF Workgroup website. PitStop tries to fix any problems it finds in order to create a compliant file. If a problem cannot be fixed, a preflight report detailing the problem is mailed to the customer who supplied the faulty file and to the appropriate internal customer service representative.
Archiving
Successfully preflighted PDF files are moved into the “Output” archive folder, where they are stored in subdirectories, depending on how they entered the flow.
